Job summary
Senior system developer responsible for leading design, development and maintenance of multiple surveillance and other major systems and applications to support UKHSA surveillances and other activities
The post holder will provide expert technical knowledge throughout the design, piloting and implementation of the systems. S/he will take the lead on overseeing software development during the lifecycle of the development and deployment of the various systems.
The post will involve working closely with staff across the UKHSA to design, develop, test and maintain new and existing systems in response to current and future user requirements, and provide operational support to UKHSA activities.
The post holder will need to be sensitive to the highly confidential nature of high profile political and media attention associated with environmental health topics such as air pollution and climate change.

Main duties of the job
As the Technical lead and Senior Systems Developer your main responsibilities will include:
- Be responsible for the leading design, development, documentation, implementation and maintenance of multiple surveillance systems in support of the clinical enquiries, electronic requesting and reporting.
- To undertake the role of technical lead developer on at least one of the department's Surveillance system development projects. Co-ordinating project tasks and delegating project work to other IM&T and support staff as appropriate.
- Responsible for the day-to-day technical management of the EPHT/EPHSS systems and associated reporting tools.
- To act as an 'expert' resource in systems design and software development for the Environmental Public Health Tracking surveillance systems.
- To be responsible for providing project and resource management for at least one main surveillance system in collaboration with the Project Manager.
- To provide technical advice and guidance to developers in all aspects of design and development of multiple software systems especially within the MS.NET development tool set.
- To provide expert advice to the Environmental Epidemiology Group Leader and head of Environmental Epidemiology Team in assessing business and technical requirements of any systems and projects managed and undertaken by the Environmental Epidemiology Team and wider UKHSA on environmental health.
- To provide guidance to users in formulating system software requirements.
