The Interim Devices Working Group (IDWG) is looking to appoint a Chair to the Plastic,
Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Expert Advisory Group (PRASEAG).
PRASEAG is formed of external experts (i.e. clinicians, scientists and lay representative/s) who
provide clinical and scientific perspective on the regulation of medical devices used in Plastic Surgery
and non-surgical procedures, both for cosmetic and reconstructive procedures.
Currently PRASEAG members are from a range of clinical backgrounds and have a broad range of
experiences with different implants used for cosmetic and reconstructive Plastic Surgical procedures.
PRASEAG help MHRA to better understand the risks, benefits and complications that may be caused
by devices used for both reconstructive and cosmetic Plastic Surgical purposes (e.g. BIA-ALCL).
Main duties of the job
As Chair you will:
Lead this advisory group, participate in the drafting of the agenda, chair the meetings
(approximately 2 meetings a year) and where decisions are required support the advisory
group to reach a consensus.
Attend Chair briefings with MHRA colleagues prior to the meeting.
Read papers for committee advice in advance of the Chair briefing meeting.
Ensure that the advisory group takes full account of the evidence in making decisions and
recommendations and considers the analysis and interpretation of the evidence prepared by
MHRA and any invited experts.
Establish trust and mutual respect among members of the advisory group and give
opportunities for all members to contribute to its discussions and activities.
Ensure all advisory group members consider equality, diversity and inclusion in all of the
discussions.
Offer members feedback and comment on their contribution to the advisory group, on an
annual basis, for revalidation purposes or personal development.
Help the advisory group to work collaboratively, ensure a balanced contribution from all
advisory group members. Ensure effective and appropriate management of potential conflicts
of interest of their members.
Represent the views of the wider advisory group and to feedback the work of EAG to its
members and the Interim Devices Working Group.

- The Chair must be able to demonstrate the qualities, skills and experience to meet all the essential criteria for appointment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyse complex issues, to think and act, taking in to account the bigger picture, and to exercise sound judgement in the face of conflicting pressures and deadlines.
- Good meeting management skills and command of a large information content.
- Ability to chair an expert committee in accordance with the Terms of Reference of the Committee.
- Ability to identify solutions to difficult problems, with an objective, independent and impartial approach.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with a range of external and internal stakeholders at all levels.
- A proven ability in involving patients and the public in committee or working group discussions and decisions.
- Experience of the application of methodologies for the assessment of benefit and risk.
- Have or be willing to develop a working knowledge and understanding of UK medical device regulatory framework and procedures.
- Flexible attitude, ability and enthusiasm to work as a leader.
- Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to the work of the EAG.
- Be able to declare conflicts of interest and adhere to the Code of Practice.
Desirable
- The applicant is recognised by their peers as a leader in their field e.g., Royal College, nationally recognised clinical associations, nationally recognised academic research teams.
- Have a working knowledge and understanding of UK medical device regulatory framework and procedures.
- The ability to network more widely is desirable.
