The Commission on Human Medicines (CHM) is looking to appoint one Lay Member to the Medicines for Women's Health Expert Advisory Group (MWH EAG). The MWH is an EAG of the CHM which advises the Licensing Authority (Health Ministers) on the safety, quality and efficacy of medicines for human use and to promote the collection and investigation of adverse drug reactions. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) seeks independent advice from the CHM. The MWH EAG remit covers applications for new medicines and safety issues arising with medicines which are already in clinical use for the following: contraception, assisted reproduction, obstetrics and gynaecology, menopause, osteoporosis, endocrinology (for men or women), safety of use of medicines during pregnancy
Main duties of the job
Expertise Required: Lay Member
The phrase lay member refers to a member of one of our advisory committees or groups who has personal experience of living with a condition and its current therapeutic environment. The phrase could also refer to someone from a community affected by the advice provided by the advisory committee or group.
Lay members fulfil an important committee role, by contributing a patient perspective to the work of the advisory committee or group, or by representing the broader community potentially affected by their advice.
The Member must be able to demonstrate the qualities, skills and experience to meet all the essential criteria for appointment.
People with professional qualifications or experience of working in an area relevant to the work of the advisory group, or who are employed either directly or indirectly by the pharmaceutical industry, are not eligible to apply for a lay member role.
Lay members have full rights to participate in the discussion, therefore they must comply with the Code of Practice.
