Main duties of the job
Professional lead for all technical staff within pharmacy services, responsible for the delivery of training for all pharmacy technical staff.
Evaluate the compliance of HCS Pharmacy Services with internal and external regulatory requirements, policies, and best practice standards, to help ensure the delivery of safe and quality pharmacy services.
- The postholder will have to comply with all relevant States Laws, such as the Health and Safety at Work (Jersey) Law 1989 and any other associated legislation, Standing Orders, Financial Directions, and other relevant Codes of Practice, in respect of managing the key project deliverables of programmes and costs through the active management of procurement, approval, financial and administrative procedures.

- Lead the development and implementation of learning, strategies, and training programmes across HCJ pharmacy services for all pharmacy technical staff.
- Work with the Pharmacy Services Manager to ensure staff maintain professional competence, standards, and maintain direction with national initiatives. Ensure safe systems of work are carried out according to relevant legislation and professional standards, leading on change management where requested.
- Identify and report on training and development needs, priorities and programmes for technical pharmacy staff and ensure that they are aligned with departmental objectives, professional requirements and deliver improved outcomes. Monitor and report on training budgets and resources to senior pharmacy leadership to ensure the delivery of value for money.
- Produce a competency-based training plan, identifying suitable training programmes, courses, work, or projects including management training for pharmacy technical staff.
- Manage the Pharmacy Level 2 and 3 related training, and co-ordinate and support activities of senior technical staff. Co-ordinate the support to student Pharmacy technicians throughout their courses and ensure adequate access to resources.
- Develop and co-ordinate an induction programme for new staff, including locum staff.
- Review compliance with HCS Pharmacy policies, procedures, and processes. Identify any shortfalls and make recommendations to address them.
- Conduct health and safety risk assessments in relation to pharmacy activities and premises and enforce preventative measures. Inspect premises and the work of pharmacy personnel to identify issues or non-conformity and make recommendations to address areas of non-conformity
- Design and conduct regular internal audits of pharmacy activities for each area of pharmacy, in collaboration with pharmacy managers and lead pharmacists. Help develop actions plans and implement recommendations to ensure continuous quality improvement of pharmacy services.
- Work closely with the Medicines Governance and Safety Pharmacist to review compliance with HCS medicines policy, including conducting Controlled Drug audits and medicines security audits.
- Performance manage direct reports, ensuring they achieve the required level of competency to support the delivery of a high-quality service to patients.
- Provide the final accuracy check of clinically screened medicines prior to supply to patients, to ensure that medicines are dispensed accurately and safely and supported by the appropriate patient advice.
