Health and Care Jersey (HCJ) are pleased to invite applications for the role of Chief of Service, Medical Care Group. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of healthcare in a unique, independent health system on the island of Jersey. We are looking for a senior medically qualified clinician with experience of providing divisional/care group level leadership, ideally with experience of medical specialities. This post is accountable to the Chief Operating Officer Acute Services and professionally responsible to the Medical Director.

Main duties of the job

The Chief of Service will supervise and lead medical staff and manage the day-to-day operations of the Care Group. They will seek to ensure that the Care Group provides effective and efficient patient services of the highest quality. Strong clinical engagement is central to the management of the Care Group. They will contribute to the day-to-day corporate management and thestrategic direction of Health and Care Jersey (HCJ).

The Chief of Service leads the multi-professional care group senior leadership team to provide strategic, operational and professional leadership and management to a broad range of medical specialties. The Medical Care Group is responsible for a significant element of service delivery for Health and Care Jersey, with both emergency and elective activity over multiple sites that includes the accident and emergency department, the acute inpatient bed base and outpatient medical clinics.

The primary duties of the role are to provide medical leadership but there will in addition be opportunities for the appointee to engage in clinical practice in their area of specialist interest if desired.

The new Chief of Service will join the organisation at a time of significant transformation, with recent investment in new medical consultant posts and with planning underway for a major new hospital development on the island. The service is also renewing and expanding links with UK tertiary services to create new clinical pathways and to ensure that all aspects of modern medical care are available to the island. The appointee will thus have the opportunity of leading on a programme of extensive change and service redevelopment, shaping the future of medical care delivery in Jersey.
