Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic staff grade/ specialty doctor to join our established Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), based in St Helier. The job will be primarily based in our newly refurbished Community Mental Health Centre at La Chasse, St. Helier.

The CMHT serves people, aged between 18 and 65, who suffer from severe mental illness. Our aim is to help services users achieve their potential by promoting recovery and maintaining wellbeing. Our service users come from a variety of cultural backgrounds and often have challenging and complex needs. The CMHT is a multidisciplinary team, which includes doctors (consultants and staff grades), a clinical psychologist, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, support workers and administrative staff.

The post holder will undertake psychiatric assessments and mental and physical examinations. They will provide formulation, risk assessment, care planning and treatment for people with severe mental health problems.

The successful candidate will receive support and regular supervision from an experienced consultant psychiatrist. They will be expected to develop leadership skills, and to participate in: quality improvement, service development, and teaching. There will also be opportunities for participation in research.

This post is 09:00 17:00 with on call responsibilities.

Job responsibilities

The Post Holder will:-

Record clinical activity accurately and contemporaneously on the electronic patient record system.

Ensure effective liaison between mental health services and the acute hospital, and with other agencies in the voluntary and statutory sectors as appropriate.

Deputise/cross cover from time to time for absent colleagues and colleagues on annual leave.

Undertake, exceptionally, to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

Participate in the out of hours on-call rota up to a maximum frequency of 1 in 6

Participate in the in hours on call rota

Attend regular supervision with their supervising consultant.

Participate in annual appraisal and revalidation.

Participate in the academic programme of the organisation, including the weekly mental health education programme.

Maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, and the Jersey Care Commission.

Hopefully obtain approval under the Jersey Mental Health Law approval process or work towards this if not immediately eligible.

Abide by professional codes of conduct including the Royal College of Psychiatrists Good Psychiatric Practice and the General Medical Councils Good Medical Practice.

Comply with the employers agreed policies and procedures and standing financial instructions.

Comply with the Trusts Health and Safety policies and training requirements, including all mandatory training.

Annual Leave

Staff grades are entitled to 30 days of annual leave increasing to 32 days after 7 years service (at staff grade level) plus 9 bank holidays.

Study leave for the purpose of professional development should be applied for through the supervising consultant and is approved by the Director of Medical Education.

Applications for compassionate leave should be made to the supervising consultant. Approval will be at the discretion of the Consultant Clinical Lead.
