Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Dental Officer to work in the Dental Department within Health and Care Jersey, to cover the parental leave for 12 months.
The appointment will be subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service Staff Grade & Associate Specialist Doctors (SAS) States of Jersey (2011). For salaried Dentists the maximum point of salary is point 6 of the Associate Specialist payscale.
There are 8 clinical sessions available within the department and a theatre element to the role, including 1x list per month for patients requiring general anaesthetic. The post-holder will be expected to undertake procedures in theatre, provide clinical leadership, dental advice and treatment under the umbrella of Special Care Dentistry.
The service provides dental care up to secondary school age, which encompasses check ups and treatment. There is also a service provided for those who have a disability, which prevents them from accessing dental care in a general practice setting.

Main duties of the job
Clinical sessions will involve comprehensive dental care of patients requiring Paediatric Dentistry, routine exodontia lists under general anaesthetic for children under 12 years of age, GA pre-assessment clinics on the outpatient department and treatment clinics on the outpatient department.
The post-holder will support the Paediatric Dentistry team, community specialists and trainees within the department. This post holder will provide potential clinical cover for the routine extraction GA lists as and when needed, due to leave of existing staff.
The post-holder will collaborate directly with colleagues from other dental and medical specialties within the Dental hospital and wider Trust such as Oral Medicine, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, as well as the Primary Care Dental Service team based in the community, arrangements for special care dentistry are currently being configured.
The post-holder will require flexibility, resilience and a wide range of skills for this post and will be supported by clear line management and mentorship.

Newgate Street, St Helier. Work commitments and intensity will be reviewed at
least annually through the job planning process. Any substantial changes in the
nature of the post will be agreed through the job planning process. The post holders job plan will be reviewed
annually and will be assessed according to current guidance. The postholder will be managerially
responsible to their supervising consultant and through them to the Lead Consultant
for the service.
The job plan will consist of 8 Clinical
Programmed Activities, in addition there is 1 PA for administration and 1
Supporting Professional Activity (SPA). The Clinical PAs will include: direct clinical
contact (in outpatients, in the community and occasionally in hospital
settings), indirect clinical contact (in multi-disciplinary meetings and
reviews), and clinical administration. The SPA will include: CPD, audit &
quality improvement activity, appraisal, revalidation and PDP groups. The balance of PAs and SPAs may vary by
agreement between the organisation and the post holder but will not be less
than one SPA.
The post
holder will be provided with a shared office space including telephone and
desktop. A laptop will also be provided.
Administrative support is also available through the team secretary.
