Job summary

Are you a compassionate and dedicated mental health nurse looking to make a significant impact on the lives of children and adolescents? We are seeking a skilled and empathetic CAMHS nurse to join our Out of Hours Crisis and Assessment Team. The Government of Jersey is committed to providing exceptional mental health care to young people and their families, and we work collaboratively with partners in Healthcare as well as other agencies to offer comprehensive support, ensuring the safety and well-being of the young people we work with.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as the out of hours CAMHS contingent of the Crisis and Assessment Team, assessing and supporting children and young people who are in mental health crisis. This is an autonomous role, involving multidisciplinary and multiagency working. It requires specialist knowledge and skills through qualifications in mental health nursing. The practitioner should be competent and confident in assessing individuals, and developing collaborative community care plans with the young person and their carers.

The majority of this role will be night shift working (8pm-8am), although there will be an expectation that the post holder contributes to other shifts in the team to support the service as required.

Carrying out assessments (including for those in crisis) in the community, in the Emergency Department, and in police custody independently, liaising with family and professionals and taking an active role in risk-assessing and safety planning. Where appropriate, promoting and enabling the use of alternatives to hospital admission.

Liaising and working positively with members of the team, other teams within the department, and partner organisations. Working collaboratively with colleagues to empower service users and carers, maximise service user independence, and ensure the protection of islanders human rights.

Recognising and addressing concerns about the physical health needs of service users, and how they interact with the service users mental health needs.

Encouraging and empowering service users to have an optimum level of responsibility for their individual program of care and with their consent, where appropriate, seeking the cooperation of relatives, carers, and community provisions following recovery principles and approaches. Supporting service users to adopt recovery strategies that promote their wellbeing, healthy lifestyle, independence, and self-care.

To be personally responsible and professionally accountable for a caseload as part of the crisis and assessment team.

Provides timely, accurate, well written reports, in accordance with statutory guidance and Government policy.

Takes responsibility for continuing professional development within own area of expertise.

Mentors and supports students and junior members of staff within own professional expertise as and when required.

  • Demonstrable experience post qualifying as a CAMHS nurse/ability to demonstrate required experience including evidence in leading a multi-professional team.
  • Broad experience of engaging with patients, motivate and support them to high standards.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Safeguarding
  • Evidence of leadership Experience of implementing,managing and achieving changes inclinical practice
  • Demonstrates clinical outcome measures for service users
  • Experienced in clinical governance, clinical audit, and service users experience.
  • Evidence of effective staff management and running a ward/area/department

  • Experience of conducting supervision sessions with staff
