Job summary
Exciting new post for a Specialist Adult Speech and Language Therapist to join a motivated and enthusiastic small Speech and Language Therapy team in Jersey. This post has been developed to improve the stroke pathway and to provide support as required during the acute phase of care, an improved service to the rehabilitation ward and outreach into community settings.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to work flexibly across these areas on a needs led basis and work as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team. This will include working with a range of patients, from those individuals who have experienced a CVA to those with progressive illnesses and complex traumatic brain injury. It will involve working closely with the multidisciplinary team across rehab and community settings to support the individuals across their rehabilitation journey. The post holder will be a mentor for less experienced staff and be expected to provide training for colleagues. The post holder will contribute to service development across the rehabilitation pathway.Dysphagia competencies are essential. Experience in video fluoroscopy skills and FEES clinics are desirable, and training can be offered on island. A good knowledge of low and high tech AAC is also essential.

To plan, deliver and evaluate specialist Speech and Language Therapy services for a range of
patients with complex needs under the direction of the Senior and Lead Adult Speech and
Language Therapists. Working within the division of Primary, Prevention, Adult Therapies and
Community Dental and working across the relevant therapy teams as required.
To provide a range of speech & language assessment and management services for allocated
clients whilst also providing a professional resource for other disciplines so that the contribution
of Speech and Language Therapy is integrated within clients total service provision across all
involved agencies.
To evaluate, advise and train clients, their families and other professional staff on the
management of disorders to minimise the impact of disability on quality of life. This will involve
development of AAC for patients with complex communication needs and developing skills in
videofluoroscopy to manage patients with dysphagia.
High quality evidence based care to adult population across community and the Jersey General
Hospital including stroke care, progressive neurological conditions, adults who stammer, and the
frail elderly population with multiple comorbidities.
