Job summary
We are a forward thinking organisation and are looking to recruit a number of Theatre Practitioners who are highly motivated and open to change.
This post is suitable for a Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner, who is skilled in anaesthetic and recovery practice and the associated duties working within the surgical theatres at Jersey General Hospital. Our theatres cover a wide range of specialities including General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery elective and Trauma, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Urology, ENT & Max Fax, Vascular, Ophthalmic, Dental including. We also provide 24 hour emergency cover for the island and its residents. We have eight surgical theatres, two of which are dedicated day surgery and a minor operations unit.

Main duties of the job
The post will also be part of the trauma and arrest team, this will involve working alongside the anaesthetist in Accident and Emergency department and outlying areas.
The positions available are within scrub and circulating duties. Some rotation and flexibility will be required to meet service needs.

This role operates across a range of clinical areas within the acute and community services.
Individuals at this level will be able to plan and deliver care for complex or high risk patients
within their caseload and will give guidance and support to less experienced staff. They may be
required to take charge of the ward or team and will be able to lead with confidence.
Nursing / ODP Practice: The post holder will co-ordinate the care for specified individual patients or patient groups by
consistently compiling care plans which meet identified treatment goals resulting in high quality
patient care.
The post holder will demonstrate enhance nursing practice by acquiring knowledge and skills
in reading, interpreting and evaluating research to pursue evidence based practice.
The post holder will contribute to setting standards and will maintain standards in the clinical
area.
The post holder will participate in clinical audit and will enhance nursing care by acting as a role
model in terms of own care delivery.
The post holder will demonstrate proficiency in performing investigations and treatment in
accordance with defined standards. He/she may be required to act in the capacity as an
independent supplementary prescriber within specific clinical areas agreed by the organisation.
The post holder will demonstrate effective infection prevention and challenge poor practice.
The post holder will consistently provide high quality advice to patients, carers, colleagues and
will act as health promoter, incorporating health promotion themes into nursing practice.
The post holder takes responsibility for the safeguarding and welfare of all children, adults and/or
families within their care and contact.
He/she shall be aware of and comply with all safeguarding
polices and procedures
The post holder will maintain accurate patient documentation and produce high quality patient
information.
