Investment in Mental health care in Jersey has led to a
redesign and an expansion of our community services, we are seeking an
additional enthusiastic staff grade to be part of our growing community team. Caseload numbers and staffing are manageable compared with the
UK.
We have also received significant investment in our
inpatient services with improvement of our offer for patients and there will be
a newly refurbished ward from late 2022. So we are looking for a permanent
staff grade to join the inpatient team. Staffing ratios and bed occupancy rates
are really favourable compared with the UK.
Members of our team are experienced, supportive and willing
to share their knowledge.
There is also the possibility to rotate into different staff
grade positions over time if desired to help develop your career.
It is a really great time to come to Jersey. We are
currently in the middle of thecomprehensive programme to transform health
and social care, including a new hospital project. Jersey is a prosperous
island with much closer interaction with political processes than the UK which
creates unique potential to shape how we deliver health care. We are not part

Main duties of the job
The Post Holder will:
Record clinical activity accurately and contemporaneously
on the electronic patient record system.
Ensure effective liaison between mental health services and the
acute hospital, and with other agencies in the voluntary and statutory sectors
as appropriate.
Deputise/cross cover from time to time for absent colleagues and
colleagues on annual leave main cross cover arrangement is with the other
inpatient ward staff grade/ clinical fellow.
Undertake, exceptionally, to perform additional duties in
occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
Participate in the out of hours on-call rota up to a maximum
frequency of 1 in 5.
Participate in the in hours on call rota if required (not a
regular commitment).
Attend regular supervision with their supervising consultant.
Participate in annual appraisal and revalidation.
Participate in the academic programme of the organisation,
including the weekly mental health education programme.
Maintain professional registration with the General
Medical Council, and the Jersey Care Commission.
Obtain approval under the Jersey Mental Health Law
approval process.
Abide by professional codes of conduct
including the Royal College of Psychiatrists Good Psychiatric Practice and
the General Medical Councils Good Medical Practice.
Comply with the employers agreed policies and procedures and standing
financial instructions.
Comply with the Trusts Health and Safety policies and training
requirements, including all mandatory training

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic staff grade doctor to join our adult inpatient service on Orchard House based at St Saviours hospital.
Orchard House consists of 17 adult acute beds (including an extra-care area). It is for people aged between 18 and 65, who suffer from severe mental illness and require inpatient admission. Our aim is to help services users achieve their potential by promoting recovery and maintaining wellbeing. Our service users come from a variety of cultural backgrounds and often have challenging and complex needs.The inpatient team is a multidisciplinary team, which includes doctors (consultant, Staff grade (this post) and F2), a clinical psychologist, nurses, a social worker, occupational therapists, health care assistants and administrative staff.
The post holder will undertake psychiatric assessments and physical examinations on admission. They will be involved in the ongoing multidisciplinary ward reviews and responsible for discharge summaries. They will provide daily input into the inpatient care. They will offer day to day supervision to the F2 doctor who will also be involved in the above tasks.
Under supervision they will be able to support Mental Health Law work including contributing to tribunal reports.
The post-holder will also provide cross-cover for leave with the staff grade/clinical fellow on the older adults wards.
Thesuccessful candidate will receive support and regular supervision from an experienced consultant psychiatrist. They will be expected to develop leadership skills, and to participate in: quality improvement, service development, and teaching. There will also be opportunities for participation in research.
Continuing Professional Development is strongly supported. There will be opportunities to use CPD time to gain specialist experience in: community psychiatry, neuropsychiatry (ADHD, Autism and Learning difficulties), home treatment, liaison psychiatry, memory assessment, the psychiatry of older adults, and the treatment of alcohol and substance misuse. We support interested candidates in preparing for the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR), including, where appropriate, acting up under supervision at consultant level.
The post holders will participate in weekly academic teaching sessions involving: case presentations; journal club; external and internal lectures; and audit presentations. Additional organization-wide educational events occur on a regular basis. There will be a minimum of one hour per week protected time for personal supervision. Doctors have an allocated study leave budget to which staff grade doctors may apply.

Annual Leave
Staff grades are entitled to 30 days of annual leave after 2 years service, increasing to 32 days after 7 years service (at staff grade level) plus 9 bank holidays.
Study leave for the purpose of professional development should be applied for through the supervising consultant and is approved by the Director of Medical Education.
Applications for compassionate leave should be made to the supervising consultant. Approval will be at the discretion of the Consultant Clinical Lead. Compassionate leave is unpaid unless in exceptional circumstance and by individual negotiation
