Job summary

The Occupational Therapy Service on the beautiful island of Jersey are seeking an enthusiastic Basic Grade Occupational Therapists (UK band 5) to work across our departmental rotation in either Acute In-patients, Rehabilitation, Community, or Paediatric settings. The suitable candidate will hold a Degree in Occupational Therapy and be registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC).

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate, flexibility, reliability, adaptability, self-reliance, inner drive and the ability to problem solve. Main duties of the job

To manage a designated caseload using evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions, including the management of environmental factors, vocational opportunities and leisure activities in order to minimise the impact of disability on quality of life.

To maintain records which fulfil legal requirements and participate in a rotational scheme across a scope of health and community services.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Assess, develop interventions and monitor needs for a range of conditions within a variety of clinical areas as part of a rotational position within in-patient and community settings. This includes evaluation; individualised intervention; advice and training to clients, families and other professional staff on the management of physical and mental illness, injury or disability, prevention of medical deterioration, management of a clients environmental factors, vocational and educational opportunities and leisure activities.

2. Receive direct referrals from a range of clinical services and the general public, diagnosing and screening clients where appropriate to identify how they may benefit from OT intervention, and providing subsequent comprehensive, holistic assessment using a variety of clinical skills and tailored intervention including prescription of rehabilitation programmes and therapeutic activities in order to promote maximum independence and safety of the client.

3. Delivers professional evaluation, consultation, advice and training to clients, carers, relatives and other professional staff within the hospital and community, education and the voluntary sector as appropriate, in the use of specialised aids, assistive technology, adaptive bespoke equipment and having input towards major housing adaptations with guidance from senior Occupational Therapists.

4. Manage cases of individuals with physical, mental health and learning difficulties and offers support to carers to promote effective outcomes that are met consistent with the clients needs, and to refer to other agencies as required with guidance from senior Occupational Therapists where appropriate.

5. Maintain appropriate and timely client records of assessment, intervention and progress to adhere to the Health Care Professionals Council requirements and to monitor the effectiveness of intervention; to facilitate treatment planning and provision; and to support the ongoing evaluation of the efficiency and effectiveness of the service.

6. Interpret, share, implement and monitor government and national policies, standards and guidelines within a range of clinical areas to ensure that work is conducted in accordance with organisation/service policies and within health and safety regulations.

7. Provide information, informal supervision and appropriately delegate to professional unqualified staff. Offer tailored advice to voluntary organisations and family carers in order to improve the understanding of client needs and promote effective management of the clients condition to minimise the impact on quality of life.

8. Maintain statistics and administrative records of patients seen / treated, materials and equipment supplied / loaned, workloads carried, as required by the OT Department and Unit in order to evaluate and ensure an efficient and effective service and to identify future planning needs.

9. Take responsibility for proactively engaging in ones own continuous professional development, and support the professional development of Occupational Therapy assistants, support workers and students both locally and those undertaking degree level courses, and participate in and help organise career talks, public meetings, professional conferences etc. as required, with the aim of increasing public access and awareness of the OT service.

10. Have input towards service development, implementing the use of outcome measures to evaluate the effectiveness of the service and interpretation and actioning developments in Occupational Therapy practice in order to make recommendations that would contribute to organisational changes to improve the service

  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • (CPD)Completed a broad range of clinical placements

Desirable

  • Experience within or understanding of health settings outside of the OT

Qualifications
