Job summary

Main duties of the job

General clinical duties including admitting patients from the Emergency Department and attending ward rounds with the surgical team. Review patients on a regular basis in accordance with the plan of care made at the beginning of the shift and inform the consultant of any issues or problems. Attendance at out-patient clinics and theatre sessions as required.

About the role and our team

We are looking for motivated and ambitious individuals to join our well-integrated team at Noble’s Hospital on the Isle of Man. This would be for an initial contract until 31st March 2024.

Noble’s Hospital is the Island’s only District General Hospital and is situated on the outskirts of Douglas, the capital of the Isle of Man.

You will be involved in the day to day ward management of general surgical patients. In addition, you will attend the surgical outpatient clinics, and partaking in the elective theatre lists is encouraged.

This role also requires you to participate a 1st on call residential rota for the treatment of surgical patients (and potential on an interim basis - orthopaedic patients).

You will work as part of one of four consultant led teams with a Consultant and an Associate Specialist \ Staff Grade Doctor.  In addition, there are 3 Foundation Doctors to assist in the provision of ward care in general surgery.

If you are planning a career in acute surgical specialties, this could be the perfect role for you.  You will have opportunities to gain experience in routine care of general surgical patients and to develop basic surgical skills.

You will have access to our Education and Training Centre and library, Keyll Darree, which is situated in the grounds of Noble’s Hospital.  It comprises a lecture theatre, well stocked medical library, training facilities and a state of the art simulation lab which is operated by trained simulation practitioners.  Frequent simulation based surgical training programmes are run from the lab as well as drills to practice emergency procedures.
