The States of Guernsey are looking for a Lead for Dietetics and Nutrition.

This is a rare chance to step into a senior leadership position where your expertise in nutrition and dietetics will shape the future of healthcare across an entire island community. As the Head of the Guernsey Nutrition and Dietetic Service, you won't just manage a team you'll influence strategy, drive innovation, and elevate standards of care across Health and Social Care.

You will lead on all things nutrition, guiding policy, championing best practice, and ensuring that patients in every setting from acute wards to community services receive exceptional nutritional care.

The role blends strategic leadership with advanced clinical practice, giving you the best of both worlds. You'll work at the top of your profession, providing specialist input to ICU, Renal, and Gastroenterology services, while also shaping the systems, workforce, and governance that underpin high quality care.

You'll collaborate closely with senior leaders, influence hospital and community food standards across Guernsey and Alderney and help build a future ready service that supports healthier lives for the whole population.

Main duties of the job

The postholder is responsible for the overall management of the Guernsey Nutrition and Dietetic Service, providing strong leadership and clinical guidance to all staff within Health and Social Care.

They will lead on professional and strategic development, ensuring that clinical governance, workforce planning, education, and training align with service needs and support a capable, future-ready workforce.

The role includes acting as the organisations professional advisor on nutritional matters, working collaboratively with senior colleagues to ensure robust governance, policies, and standards of nutritional care across all settings.

This includes liaising with the Hospital Catering department to ensure Hospital Food Standards are met in both Guernsey, Alderney, and also working with Community Nutrition Standards. In addition, the postholder will be expected to deliver advanced clinical care to a range of specialist patient groups, in particular the post holder will offer specialist clinical input to ICU, expert input to Renal services and to Gastroenterology, and will offer additional input to acute areas and Alderney as required.

They will undertake a significant formal and informal educational role to other health care professionals and the public, will lead on having Dietetic Students on placement in the department, and will support the local pre and post registration nurse training.
