The States of Guernsey are looking for a Senior Staff Nurse to join the Mignot Memorial Hospital in Alderney.
The Mignot Memorial Hospital is a 24-bedded hospital providing care to patients with a wide range of acute and complex medical conditions, comprising 8 acute care beds, 14 long-stay beds, and a 2-bedded Emergency Department. The Senior Staff Nurse plays a key leadership role within the organisation, acting as a leader, advisor, and role model to nursing staff.
They are responsible for ensuring that high standards of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised programmes of care are delivered safely and effectively within their clinical setting.
Main duties of the job
MMH is a 24-bedded hospital providing care to patients with a wide range of acute and complex medical conditions, comprising 8 acute care beds, 14 long-stay beds, and a 2-bedded Emergency Department.
This role plays a key leadership role within the organisation, acting as a leader, advisor, and role model to nursing staff.
They are responsible for ensuring that high standards of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised programmes of care are delivered safely and effectively.
They will regularly act as Nurse in Charge of the ward, providing visible clinical leadership and overseeing the day-to-day operational management of the unit. Responsibilities include managing staff allocation and skill mix, coordinating patient flow, admissions and discharges, overseeing medivac transfers, and working closely alongside on call doctors.
Will also implement and monitor quality assurance initiatives, develop action plans in response to audits or incidents, measure outcomes to support continuous improvement, promote adherence to organisational policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements while fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.
The role includes participation in staff appraisals, supporting and mentoring new starters, and contributing to staff development and performance management.

complex needs including individuals with unconfirmed diagnosis.
To develop, implement and evaluate specialised programmes of
care utilising evidence and research.
To work autonomously, recognising changes in
patients'/service users' presentation which require intervention, knowing when
to escalate as appropriate.
To guide, advise and
direct other staff in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
of specialised patient/service user care.
To promote patient/service user involvement in the planning,
delivery and evaluation of care, respecting their beliefs and dignity.
To utilise data and information from a range of sources to
identify patient/service user condition to guide decision making.
Within field of
expertise and policy, request specific clinical tests to establish a diagnosis.
To undertake the role
of health promoter and educator for patients/service users and their support
networks.

professional standards are upheld by the staff members working within the
postholders sphere of responsibility.
To report all accidents and incidents as per policy and
participate in risk management and Quality and Safety processes e.g. SWARM.
To be accountable for
ensuring that safeguards are in place for patients/service users and escalate
