Job summary

The States of Guernsey are looking for a Staff Nurse to join one of the Orthopaedic Wards at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

Main duties of the job

De Sausmarez is a 16 bedded ward who manages orthopaedic trauma patients. This includes spinal injuries, upper and lower limb fractures, and back pain. Many have complicated nursing needs, require MDT input, and complex discharge planning. De Havilland is a 9 bedded ward who manage patient having elective joint replacements. This includes preoperative review by nursing staff, Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapists. This identifies any concerns prior to the patient being admitted. De Havilland patients are admitted for elective procedures including hip, knee, shoulder, wrist, hand and ankle surgery

To work autonomously, recognising changes in patients'/service users' presentation which require intervention, knowing when to escalate to senior staff.

To guide, advise and direct other staff in the delivery of programmes of care.

To undertake the role of health promoter and educator for patients/service users and their support networks.
