Job summary

The States of Guernsey are looking for a Children and Adult Safeguarding Named Nurse to join the team at The Office of The Committee for Health and Social Care.

Main duties of the job

HSC provides a wide range of services including acute, mental health, community services, learning disability and social care and the Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children and Adults will be required to have excellent leadership skills and the ability to promote good professional safeguarding practice by providing advice and supervision to staff. The Named Nurse will have in-depth knowledge of childrens health and development. The Named Nurse will also have in-depth knowledge of the systems and processes that needs to be in place for the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children and adults at risk of harm. The Named Nurse will be required to work closely with the multi-disciplinary team both within HSC and partner organizations including the Medical Specialist Group, GPs and GP Practices, Police, St. John Ambulance Service, nursing and care homes.

To provide visible professional leadership in the co-ordination, monitoring and evaluation of all aspects of the at risk agenda for both children and adults.

In partnership with the HSC Safeguarding Service Manager and Designated Nurse provide expert health knowledge, leadership and professional advice in relation to safeguarding children and adults at risk, across the Bailiwick.

The post holder will ensure robust processes are in place for health to enable HSC to participate in case reviews.

To explore ways of making sure that the voice of children and young people, and adults at risk are part of planning.

To empower nursing and midwifery staff, and all health staff and reduce public barriers to understanding around the area of safeguarding including around domestic abuse and the assessment of mental capacity.

The post holder will develop a link health safeguarding champion within each service area including community nursing and social care teams and will mentor and develop these teams.

To attend the Adult and Childrens Safeguarding, Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) and Adult Safeguarding Board and any other role related Safeguarding meetings.

Maintain specialist knowledge and awareness of the professional and legal issues arising in Safeguarding.

To promote and support the implementation of safeguarding supervision in the health system through the provision of relevant resources and access to appropriate training and development.

To ensure that the practice environment is conducive to quality learning and assessment.
