Main duties of the job
Frossard is a general paediatric ward with 9 beds. We provide acute hospital healthcare for any child within the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Patients from birth up to 18 years of age are admitted onto the ward, therefore the nurses care for children with diverse healthcare needs.
When paediatric emergency situations occur in the Accident and Emergency department, a qualified paediatric nurse may be called to provide support. On occasions a child may require stabilisation and intensive care, before being transferred to another hospital in the UK. In such situation you may be required to work closely alongside an adult ICU nurse to provide optimal care before the patient is transferred.
Children requiring either medical or surgical nursing are cared for on the ward. Frossard ward nurses care for patients with a variety of medical conditions including respiratory disease, type one diabetes and infectious diseases. Children needing orthopaedic, ENT, ophthalmic, urology or surgical procedures are also nursed on Frossard ward.
We work closely with the Children and Mental Health Team when young people are admitted onto the ward with mental health concerns, and the Childrens Community Nurse team.
