Job summary
The States of Guernsey are looking for a Transfusion Practitioner and Biomedical Scientist Haematology/Transfusion to join the team at Clinical Support Services.
The Transfusion Practitioner is a split role leading on the promotion of safe transfusion practice across HSC and working as part of the Transfusion and Haematology laboratory team. Liaising with numerous staff groups in an investigative, advisory, and training capacity the role is a key member of the Blood Transfusion Committee which sets and audits standards. As part of a small team the role includes practising as a BMS in Haematology and Transfusion including on-call.
Main duties of the job
Responsibility for Patient/Service User Care:
- To promote and deliver a high standard of care based on best practice to maintain patient/service user safety and provide an excellent.
- To coordinate the assessment of patients/service users with complex needs including individuals with unconfirmed diagnosis.
- To coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of specialised programmes of care utilising evidence and research.
- To lead a team of staff/provide specialist advice in acute and chronic situations ensuring that the patients/services users needs are met along with their support network.
- To ensure patient/service user involvement in the planning, delivery and evaluation of care, respecting their beliefs and dignity.
- To utilise data and information from a range of sources to identify patient/service user condition to guide decision making.
- Within field of expertise and policy and where appropriate, request specific clinical tests to establish a diagnosis.
- To undertake the role of health promoter and educator for patients/service users and their support networks.
- To ensure that professional standards are upheld by the staff members working within the post holders sphere of responsibility.
- To manage all incidents as per policy and participate in risk management and Quality and Safety processes.
- To be accountable for ensuring that safeguards are in place for patients/service users and escalate any safety, safeguarding or risk concerns following the appropriate Processes.
