Job summary

The States of Guernsey are seeking to appoint a Supervising Social Worker to join the team at Children and Family Community Services.

To operate as a Supervising Social Worker in the provision of an effective Family Placement Service undertaking the recruitment, assessment, review, training and ongoing supervision and support to a range of foster carers, short break carers for children with disabilities, kinship carers and prospective adopters.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will hold lead responsibility for the ongoing development and delivery of the Short Break Care Service for children with disabilities and will support a range of short break carers.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to:

Carry out high quality assessments of applicants to each service area using therelevant assessment framework within agreed timescales;

Carry out annual reviews of a range of providers for whom they hold allocatedresponsibility using the relevant review framework within agreed timescales. Topresent assessments, reviews and other reports to the relevant Panel as required;

Prepare reports for the Court regarding adoption applications, other Court reportsand reports for the Child Youth and Community Tribunal as requested and to attendCourt and Tribunal as and when required;

Ensure that providers meet the required standards which underpin high quality careof children and young people, placement stability and good outcomes for childrenand young people through regular supervisory visits as per required standards and toprovide high quality support and supervision to providers as required;

Support the ongoing learning and development of a range of carers by beinginvolved in the delivery of training as required;

Maintain a sound theoretical knowledge and skill base regarding fostering andadoption together with knowledge and understanding of the needs of children incare including children who have experienced trauma and knowledge andunderstanding of the needs of children with a range of disabilities and additionalneeds;

Attend and, where appropriate, chair a range of meetings pertinent to each serviceas identified by the Deputy Team Manager or Senior Social Worker;

Participate in the permanency planning process, family finding and matchingprocess, liaising with colleagues, foster carers, prospective adopters andprofessionals within other agencies;

Work co-operatively with carers, prospective adopters, birth family members,colleagues and other agencies ensuring the child is central to any process;

Ensure that States of Guernsey Health and Social Care policies, procedures andlegislation are adhered to and best practice guidance is followed;

Participate in the out of hours Emergency Duty Social Work rota and on a FamilyPlacement Service Duty rota as required. There is an expectation that some eveningwork is required as part of the responsibilities of this post;

Hold a full valid driving licence;

Undertake any other duties as may be determined by the Associate Director,Children and Family Community Services, from time to time.
