Job summary

The States of Guernsey follows evidence based models of care and promotes close team working in partnership with other mental health services and agencies.

Successful applicants will be invited to Guernsey to attend an expenses paid panel interview. We offer a competitive salary and you will be entitled to an annual bonus of £1,167 and an additional bonus of £3,000 payable after two and four years of continuous service*.

Successful candidates will be provided with a Long Term Employment Permit.

We offer an attractive relocation package** and, if you rent private accommodation, you will be entitled to a £5,000 lump sum, a rent allowance payable over 2 years and a house purchase grant where applicable. As an alternative, we also offer single subsidised staff accommodation and a £500 lump sum to support your relocation.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for Nurses, who are passionate about what they do, to work as part of our mental health teams.

They will work as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team and autonomously to our patients in a modern purpose built facility. Our recent improvements to the hospital enable nurses to provide the best care to our patients in a purpose built facility.

Job description

Job responsibilities

- To assess, develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care.

- To autonomously initiate emergency interventions as patient/client condition dictates

- To provide prescribed nursing care without supervision, within the level of the post-holder’s experience, referring to a more senior nurse when necessary.

- To participate as team member, including supporting relatives and friends of patients/clients together with providing support for other patients/clients.

- To maintain accurate records, both electronic and paper, of the care given in accordance with agreed standards.

- To act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

- Independently liaise and communicate effectively with members of the nursing staff, multidisciplinary team and other associated agencies.

- Demonstrate evidence-based practice.

TRAINING AND EDUCATION

- Participate in contributing to the continuing development of our philosophy, training/education.

- To undertake in-house annual mandatory training in Manual Handling, Basic Life Support, Fire Safety and AED training.

- To undertake the role of health promoter and educator for patients/clients and their families/significant others.

- To maintain and develop own skills to promote evidence-based practice, within the role of emergency care.

- To participate in clinical supervision.

- To assist in the learning, development and assessment of unqualified staff, junior staff and adaptation nurses

- To undertake a formal mentorship role if an appropriate qualification is held.

LEADERSHIP/MANAGERIAL

- In liaison with team leader, gain experience in providing leadership to junior staff.

COMMUNICATION

- To co-ordinate complex discharge arrangements through communication with multidisciplinary team members and associated agencies.

- To give due consideration to language and cultural differences of both patients/clients/relatives/significant others and colleagues.

- To communicate effectively with patients/clients and significant others. This could include patients/clients with reduced consciousness levels (including intoxication and trauma), violent and aggressive behaviour and support the bereaved.

AUDIT/INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

- To participate in clinical audit as required.

- With training, access organisational electronic information systems relevant to the role
