Job summary

The States of Guernsey are seeking a Positive Behaviour Support Team Lead to join the team at Adult Community Services.

The PBS Team Lead is responsible for leading the implementation of Positive Behavioural Support Team. This includes conducting assessment of individuals needs, developing Positive Behavioural Support plans and support for families and staff to implement a variety of positive behavioural interventions. The strategic priorities for this role include providing high quality functional behavioural assessments, improving and monitoring quality of life outcomes via key performance indicators and providing proactive early interventions.

Main duties of the job

The PBS Team Lead is responsible for leading the implementation of Positive Behavioural Support Team. This includes conducting assessment of individuals needs, developing Positive Behavioural Support plans and support for families and staff to implement a variety of positive behavioural interventions. The strategic priorities for this role include providing high quality functional behavioural assessments, improving and monitoring quality of life outcomes via key performance indicators and providing proactive early interventions.

The term people with learning disabilities or autism or service-user is used in this job description to include children, young people and adult who have autism and learning disabilities inclusively.

Job responsibilities

To maintain clear and comprehensive clinical records detailing direct work with service users, their families and other relevant parties.

To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of Positive Behavioural Interventions by ensuring data in recorded against key performance indicators.

To anticipate barriers to communication and take positive action to overcome them.

To support service users in a manner this reflects their wishes, preferences and personalities.

To provide practice supervision to a variety of professionals involved in supporting people who present challenging behaviour.

To attend, contribute to and facilitate service user review meetings. To ensure all parties are working towards shared person centred goals.

To write clear and comprehensive reports which detail the assessments and interventions conducted for a referred person.

To conducted comprehensive functional analysis assessment using the principles of Applied Behavioural Analysis.

To lead the development of Positive Behavioural Support Plans in partnership with service-users and other key stakeholders.

To ensure that Positive Behavioural Support Plans focus on improvements in quality of life as both an intervention and an outcome.

To provide mandatory training on Positive Behavioural Support and Active Support.

To provide bespoke packages of training relating to Positive Behavioural Support and related themes.

To provide training to family members and charitable/ voluntary organisations on Positive Behavioural Support.

To act as a mentor or assessor to staff undertaking training relating to Positive Behavioural Support.

To act as a mentor or supervisor for students on placement.

To attend and contribute to workshops, training courses, conferences and meetings as required by HSC some of which may be off-island.

To work with the Team Managers for Community Learning Disability, Child Development and relevant Service Managers to identify opportunities for service development

To lead service development indicatives in relation to Positive Behavioural Support.

To be involved in strategic planning groups where appropriate, to consult on issues relating Positive Behaviour Support.

To take responsibility for ones own continuing professional development.

To work with the Community Learning Disability Team Manager to evaluate own knowledge and skills to identify areas of development.

Provide coaching and training opportunities to enable others to develop their knowledge and skills.

To keep up to date with national best practice about services for people with learning disability and challenging behaviour. Use this information as evidence to guide local service developments.

To provide information about the future behavioural support needs of children and young people.

To promote good communication between all relevant parties to ensure effective partnership working.

To clinical supervision to members of the team undertaking a variety of behavioural assessments and interventions.

To provide line management supervision and appraisal to other member of the team.

To manage referral criteria and pathway for the Positive Behavioural Support Team.

To manage a caseload and waitlist in a manner that ensures efficient and effective use of resources.

To have awareness of budgetary issues that relate to the Positive Behavioural Support services.

To attend, contribute to and facilitate staff meetings as appropriate.

To attend and contribute at service management meetings when appropriate.

To record and monitor staff annual leave and sickness to ensure policy and procedures are followed.

To manage the security of confidential information in accordance with HSC policy.

To manage incident/ accidents and complaints as delegated by Team Manager and in accordance with HSC policies and procedure.

To lead or contribute to the review of service policy, audit and procedures relating to supporting people who present challenging behaviour.
