Main duties of the job

As the chosen candidate, you will be providing an occupational oral health assessment, being fully conversant with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Dental Fitness categorisation and dental input into the Joint Medical Employment Standard for Service personnel.

2 hours per week may be attributed to non-clinical activities including practice meetings, training, and personal administration. The remainder of the contracted hours are to be utilised to provide clinical outputs and work should be directed towards improving and maintaining the dental health and operational fitness of personnel for whom you are responsible.

  • Inspecting all personnel for whom they are responsible at intervals in line with The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines and providing follow up treatment as required.
  • Ensuring that contemporaneous notes are recorded on individuals integrated electronic healthcare records for all episodes of care.
  • Complying with General Dental Council standards, Defence Primary Healthcare Standard Operating Procedures, Defence Policies (e.g. Joint Service Publication 950) and single Service regulations.
  • Onward referral of personnel to enhanced practitioners, specialists, or consultants for treatment as appropriate.

  • Certified completion of Dental Foundation Training in the UK or equivalent or have evidence of at least 24 months full-time postgraduate clinical experience derived in a primary dental care setting or have qualified before foundation training became compulsory in the NHS.
  • To ensure patient safety, applicants are required to have maintain evidence of clinical currency, specifically a minimum of 2 clinical sessions per week over the last 15 months.
