We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Exercise Rehabilitation Instructor (ERI) to join the team here at Primary Care Rehabilitation Facility (PCRF) Royal Navy Health Centre (RNHC) HMS Drake, His Majesty's Naval Base (HMNB) Devonport, Plymouth.

The PCRF incorporates a multidisciplinary team made up of 9 Physiotherapists, 2 ERI, 1 Occupational Therapist and an Administration Officer. Rehabilitation care is delivered to the population at risk (PAR) of HMS Drake, utilising the rehabilitation facility within Endeavour Building. This purpose built facility incorporates a large rehabilitation gymnasium, with a wide range of physical training equipment and floor space for class based rehabilitation. Consulting rooms are utilised for 1-1 based assessment, with 25m swimming pool and dedicate hydrotherapy pool for aquatic therapy.

The work undertaken at within PCRF forms part of the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Plan, that links to regional rehabilitation services and those provided at the Defence National Rehabilitation Centre, Stanford Hall.

Main duties of the job

This is a permanent, full time position offering 37.5 hours per week.

The successful candidate will sustain and improve the training and operational effectiveness of injured Service personnel by provision of high-quality targeted rehabilitation, accelerating their return to optimal physical capacity, whilst influencing their psychological and social health.

You will work within the Primary Care Rehabilitation Facility (PCRF) to provide a high standard of exercise-based rehabilitation including highly specialist work in the Musculoskeletal/sports and training injury area for the Population At Risk (PAR), meeting Standards for Better Health by using a multidisciplinary approach.

  • Performing appropriate clinical assessments and to design and implement safe and progressive exercise treatment schedules for all patients after the Medical Officer /Physiotherapist/Clinical Team Manager has made a diagnosis.
  • Communicating effectively with patients to ensure informed consent for treatment, good understanding of their conditions and maximize their rehabilitation potential.
  • Facilitating effective communication and co-operation with all other departmental/Unit and external medical personnel from other agencies/units.
  • Ensuring that high standards of confidentiality, recording, filing and storage of patient notes and statistical information are achieved and maintained In accordance with (iaw) local policy.

  • BSc Graduate in Sports Rehabilitation and have full Graduate Membership of the British Association of Sports Rehabilitators and Trainers (BASRaT).
  • Or
  • BSc Graduate in Sports Therapy and maintain Full Graduate Membership of the Society of Sports Therapy (SST).

  • Ex-military ERIs who have completed the MOD JSSERI Course. Where an ex-military ERI is employed within the Civil Service, they must have completed a return to clinical practice, prior to employment or within the first three months of employment
