Job summary

The Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) are an inclusive and dedicated organisation working to provide excellent rehabilitation service to our entitled personnel!

We are looking to recruit a Consultant who is experienced in Musculoskeletal (MSK) and Sport & Exercise Medicine (SEM) to join our specialist team here at the Regional Rehabilitation Unit (RRU) in Aldershot. Our chosen candidate will join a dynamic team of clinicians delivering a world class level of rehabilitation for service personnel.

This is a part-time post working 20 hours per week, with no on-call commitment.

Main duties of the job

Our chosen postholder will be joining a team that encourages the innovative use of new technologies, including delivering remote multi-disciplinary clinics, supporting clinics in the UK and abroad. They will be active in supporting the aims of the unit which are to return, where possible, service personnel to active duty.

The successful consultant will work directly with dedicated MSK physiotherapists, hardworking Exercise Rehabilitation Instructors (ERIs) and podiatrists at the RRU. You will also work as part of the wider Defence Healthcare Recovery Group which includes all RRUs, Occupational Health and Mental Health facilities and indirectly, with the wider team at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Stanford Hall.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provision of a timely and effective rehabilitation service to all appropriately referred serving personnel.
  • Intelligent triage, early assessment, and appropriate management of patients referred to the RRU.
  • Clinical decision-making on further investigation, intervention or referral of complex patients attending Multidisciplinary Injury Assessment Clinic (MIAC).
  • Appropriate referral of patients into the National Health Service (NHS) or the Rapid Access Imaging and Fast Track Surgery contract as per DPHC policy.
  • Supervision, mentorship and training of Specialist Trainees in Sports and Exercise Medicine (SEM) and Senior RRU Physiotherapists.
  • Work under the line management of the Officer Commanding (OC) RRU, supporting them and other clinical staff to ensure the clinical service is efficient, agile and is able to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
