We are searching for a professional, motivated Band 6 Practice Nurse to join our encouraging and friendly team to cover two establishments in Somerset. The position is primarily based at Norton Manor Camp, Taunton with flexibility to cover clinics at Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Yeovilton, Ilchester as required. Travel expenses will be provided if travel to Yeovilton is required.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary primary healthcare team across 2 sites, delivering general medical services and elements of occupational health to military personnel and entitled civilian personnel. They will be responsible for the delivery of appropriate assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care needs, medical screening and advice to patients within their professional competence.

Because there is a necessity to travel between the 2 sites a valid drivers licence will be required.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Having direct responsibility for patient caseload, ensuring all patients have an accurate plan of care, which reflects the assessment undertaken and incorporate the issues and recommendations making effective use of the eHR system at both sites.
  • Undertaking technical nursing treatments and procedures within your scope of practice for patients complex/specialist healthcare needs (e.g. wound care, sutures removal, Echocardiograms, Cytology, Audiometry, Ear Care) at both sites.
  • Providing professional and clinical leadership to Nurses (Locum and Students) and Medical Branch ratings working in the Treatment Room / Nursing Department, whilst maintaining and actively promoting good communication through the line management chain at both sites.
  • Assisting as required with minor operations/procedures; ensuring the treatment areas are appropriately prepared.
  • Working with the multi-disciplinary primary healthcare team in order to support key outputs at each location e.g. prioritising work hours at one location during a busy period.
