Job summary

We are Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) and we are searching for a professional, motivated Band 6 Practice Nurse to join our encouraging and friendly team within the Regional Medical Centre, RAF Marham, Kings Lynn.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary (MDT) primary healthcare team delivering primary healthcare nursing including elements of occupational health.

This position will suit someone who is able to work unsupervised, providing nursing care to the medical facility population at risk. You will hold an individual case load, and through consultation identify, assess and diagnose patients with complex health needs, minor injuries, minor illnesses and specific diseases within your level of competence. You will also have line management, training and clinical supervision responsibilities for Military Medics, Practice Nurses, Healthcare Assistants (HCA) and other members of the MDT.

Job responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking technical nursing treatments and procedures for patients complex/specialist healthcare needs (e.g. wound care, sutures removal, electrocardiogram (ECGs), Cytology, Audiometry, Ear Care).
  • Providing assistance to the Senior Medical Officer performing minor surgery.
  • Having direct responsibility for patient caseload, ensuring all patients have an accurate plan of care, which reflects the assessment undertaken and incorporate the issues and recommendations made.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of specialist services, such as long term disease management (i.e. diabetes, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension) acting as a regional resource for advice and regional clinics.
