We are looking for a friendly, well-organised and adaptable occupational health advisor to join our encouraging and welcoming team of dedicated military and civilian healthcare professionals working within Merville Barracks, Colchester.
This post is Fixed Term Appointment (FTA) ending 2nd April 2025. Please note this role is 37.5 hours per week, requests to work flexibly will be considered, taking into account business needs.

Main duties of the job
The Successful candidate will support Defence Primary Health Care (DPHC) in delivery of a safe and effective primary healthcare service within the firm base at the regional level to enhance and sustain the operational effectiveness.
We ask the successful post holder will be accountable for and with responsibility for providing a proactive, evidence-based health and well being service including case management, workplace assessment, the co-ordination of clinical aspects of sickness absence management and return to work programmes.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide safe, evidence-based, cost-effective, and individualised OH management to the service population. Manage the triage and prioritisation process of cases referred to the OH service.
- The post holder will assess and manage clinical cases referred to ROHT. Assist the Regional Occupational Medicine Consultant (ROMC) in providing timely and appropriate OH advice to clinicians, managers, and wider Ministry Of Defence (MOD), including advice on Fitness for Work, either in the Firm Base or when deployed on Exercise and Operations, with appropriate reference to Joint and sS policies and current OH guidance and DPHC best practice guidelines.
- The post holder will be accountable for and with responsibility for providing a proactive, evidence based health and wellbeing service including case management, workplace assessment, the coordination of clinical aspects of sickness absence management and return to work programmes.
- To plan and manage complex OH care, undertake comprehensive assessment and management of OH care for the Defence service population, linking into the Chain of Command (CoC), single services (sS) and other specialist Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) pillars as appropriate.

- Registered Nurse
- Degree, MSc or Diploma in Occupational Health or Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN (OH)) on part 3 of the NMC Register.
- Current registration and revalidation with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
- Current and in-depth clinical experience with Occupational Health leadership role.
- Experience of managing and developing a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Proficient in relevant Information Technology (IT) systems, subject to appropriate training being provided.
- Safeguarding Level 3 Trained and in date.
- Evidence of continuous professional development and the practical application of new skills to the workplace.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and autonomously both within the DPHC and with partner organisations 10.
- Excellent liaison and negotiation skills.
- Current certificate of Hepatitis B, Rubella, Measles and Varicella immunity.
- Full current UK Category B driving licence..
