Job summary

The Business Intelligence Services team offers data analysis, reporting, and intelligence to a wide array of clients across the health sector, including Integrated Care Boards, General Practices, and Hospitals as well as other AGEM staff based across England. The Apprentice Systems and Applications Developers is a key role in developing our service to ensure that our customers are provided with the best and most appropriate systems with which to make decisions.

This is an Apprentice Development Role and we are therefore not expecting applicants to have all of the essential criteria when applying.

Although the role is banded at a Band 5 level, Annex 21 of Agenda for Change applies. https://www.nhsemployers.org/publications/tchandbook#annex-21---25

This means your salary will be as follows;

Year 1- 65% of the top of the pay band - £22,477.65

Year 2- 70% of the top of the pay band - £24,206.70

Year 3- 75% of the top of the pay band - £25,935.75

Please note that we are unable to provide Skilled Worker visa sponsorship for this role, as it does not meet basic requirements of thepoints-based system.

Applicants should have the right to work in the UK for the duration of the contract period as this will be a pre-employment requirement.

To be eligible for Government Apprenticeship funding, applicants should also have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least the last 3 years. Further guidance can be found on theGov.uk website

Job responsibilities

  • Take ownership for completion of development activities as determined by Manager and highlight any risks / impediments for timely delivery
  • To learn and implement industry wide best practices around Technologies and Agile Development methodologies to ensure quality product is delivered.
  • Be open to learning new technologies and be available to undertake any specific training arranged by the Organisation to support development work.
  • To read and understand complex technical specification material so that these can be further developed into specifications for design and development.
  • To be able to communicate IT language in a way that service users can understand
  • To work in a matrix with the other teams in the Arden & GEM CSU to ensure that technologies integrate and that data is delivered in a usable and timely manner.
  • To participate in peer code reviews and strive to improve quality, clarity and performance of the system either developed by yourself or by other team members.
  • The post holder shall assist the Manager and contribute to the drawing up of budget for Software Developer licences (cross the Directorate and beyond) and technical training and consultancy.
