Job summary
This post will be responsible for ensuring that networks and voice systems are maintained to the required standards.
Please note that this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
The post will be responsible for ensuring that all issues and incidents are resolved within the agreed Service Level Agreements with our clients and that a high level of client satisfaction is maintained. Key to this post will be an extensive knowledge of Cisco network technologies and protocols, including but not limited to; WLAN, LAN, Wireless, Security and voice systems.
The post holder will be required to stay up to date on emerging technologies to assess how these could benefit the organisation and its clients. The post will also provide third line support in the resolution of highly complex technical issues and will support other support activities and management of projects to meet the local needs of the CSU and its clients.
This is an opportunity for an experienced network engineer to take a leading role in the design and implementation of new network services and the continual improvement and development of existing ones.
Main duties of the job
To deliver network and comms support in accordance with the organisations policies and procedures.
Escalate and effectively manage network related issues to any 3rd party network support providers
Provide mentorship for junior staff
Maintain key network and voice systems to ensure business as usual.
To assist in the delivery of service provision in accordance with the service level agreements.
Configuring and installing various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls,
Engagement with internal and external organisations to assess requests for infrastructure or service changes under Project Management delivery

To document, develop and maintain the network and voice systems policies and procedures in accordance with ITIL standards.
To be the responsible delivery lead of technical related projects in line with CSU or Client requirements as directed by an Infrastructure Manager.
To identify key risks and escalate them in accordance with the organisations procedures as appropriate.
To assist with the planning and delivery of the local IT Business Continuity Plan (BCP) as part of the organisations overall BCP, including the IT Systems Disaster Recovery Plan.
To work in conjunction with other operational managers and specialists to support key projects and service deliverables. Determine the training needs of the network and comms team and design a training plan to meet these.
Demonstrate Professional Leadership
To keep up to date with emerging technologies and best practice and share knowledge with professional colleagues as appropriate.
To support the implementation of network based technologies.
To identify and advise on service improvements on a continuous basis.
To provide technical leadership for the resolution of Service Desk jobs relating to network/voice support problems.
Establish and maintain relationships with service managers, clinicians, suppliers and appropriate NHS leads.
Communicate complex information regarding systems to a wide variety of users and other department members.
Ensure that all tasks and procedures are fully documented, accessible by others as required, and that cross-cover procedures are maintained so that all tasks can be completed in the absence of the post holder, whether planned or unplanned.
Assist IT Users in making more effective use of the network based systems and resources
Assist in the development of IT technical bids for new systems and services. Offer guidance on any proposals by using the post holders knowledge and experience of complex IT systems.
Manage the successful implementation of new or modified architecture elements within approved IT development projects to meet project timescale and budgetary targets.
Provide training to other members of the department on any specialist systems that are in use to ensure the system is used in the correct manner
Review the network systems that are in use throughout the organisation to ensure that they are configured correctly to meet the needs of the end users. Provide recommendations for any changes that need to be made.
Designs and executes test plans, to verify correct operation of completed system implementations.
Carry out regular reviews on the departments processes and procedures, in particular the business Continuity plans and work with senior manages to test & redesign as appropriate.
Produces test specifications as required for testers to follow, carries out fault diagnosis relating to extreme complex problems as part of installations, reporting the results of the diagnosis in a clear and concise manner.
Participate in the on call rota.
