Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, flexible and passionate individual to join the Technical Support Team as an IT Project Technician. Candidates must have significant proven technical support experience and be qualified to NVQ level 3 with a relevant MCP highly desirable.
Travel between the organisations remote sites is required so your own transport and driving licence is essential.
Excellent working knowledge of IT hardware, current Microsoft operating systems both desktop and server environments and Microsoft Office applications is essential. Excellent diagnostic and problem solving skills are crucial. A good working knowledge of the following is also required:-
- Anti-virus and desktop security software such as encryption.
- Networking (TCP/IP), VPN and remote access.
- PC peripherals such as printers and scanners.
- Remote support tools such as RDP, VNC and SCCM console.
- Automated PC build and associated checks.
- Active Directory administration for users and groups.
- DNS and DHCP.
Desirable skills include an understanding of Group Policy, hosted email solutions and PowerShell.
Candidates must have a strong customer focused approach, good communication and interpersonal skills.

Main duties of the job
- Carry out second line support to end users
- To provide advice to staff on the purchase of suitable hardware and software for PC based systems following agreed standards.
- To assist other departments by giving technical advice and support within agreed terms of reference.
- To provide on the spot training to users in the use of applications, directory structures and saving data onto fileservers.
- Carry out the planning, preparation, delivery, installation and configuration of both standalone and networked hardware and software systems
- Take the lead technician role on designated IT related projects, e.g relocation of staff /departments.
- To carry out IT Support, on-site and remote, via telephone (help desk) or remote diagnostics either on site or back at the workshop
- Assessment of and installation of upgrades, both hardware and software to existing IT equipment.
- Maintain all aspects of local documentation, including fault logging, equipment and software register.
- Assist in the day to day management and provision of IT Support Services to the users of IT systems within customer organisations.
- Liaise with other parts of the ICT Division in requesting support for the technicians
- Sharing knowledge and skills with other staff.
- Act as a mentor and trainer to junior staff.
- Provide remote or on-site support according to the needs of the customer and CSU IT
- Provide out of hours/on call support as required.
