Job summary

NECS is looking for a Desktop Architect to join our dynamic and innovative IT team. As a Desktop Architect, you will be in charge of designing and implementing the best solutions for our end-user computing needs, as well as managing a small team of staff who deliver the service.

You will have a strong background in hardware, operating systems, desktop software, cloud-based and mobile technologies, and you will be able to ensure the security and performance of all end-user devices. You will also have excellent communication and research skills, and you will be able to present strategic plans and options for the future NECS desktop infrastructure to senior decision makers in a clear and concise way.

You will lead the deployment of new desktop solutions, working with colleagues and the change process to ensure a smooth transition for end users. You will also plan and deliver the transition of new services to the appropriate support teams by engaging closely with all levels of IT.

Main duties of the job

As a Technical Architect, you will provide technical leadership in designing, developing, and implementing solutions.

Providing guidance and keeping abreast of industry trends as well as changing policy, you will ensure adherence to architectural standards, best practice, and quality guidelines.

Managing, mentoring, and supporting a team of specialists, you will provide effective leadership, training, support, generating enthusiasm and motivation in team of developers and engineers to ensure that they are empowered to carry out the responsibilities of their role.

As an expert in your field, you will create technical specifications and architectural diagrams to justify and communicate design decisions and support the commercialisation of solutions or products.

Knowledgeable and credible, you will be able to provide clear and concise documentation and presentations to a range of stakeholders at various levels of seniority.

The work you deliver will drive appropriate business decision making and leverage the technologies available.

  • Experience and understanding of a range of enterprise technologies and architectural level knowledge.
  • Experience of direct line management and role management and skilled in delivering results through managing others.
  • Experience of operational service delivery to recognised and accredited principles within organisational settings.
  • Proven experience in the architecting solutions in complex pan-organisation environments.
  • Proven track record of delivery as a technical specialist in your field.
  • Experience of working with third party organisations and delivery of programmes and/or outsourcing.
  • Experience of utilising research and development to advance service delivery and product development.

Desirable

  • Highly developed knowledge of enterprise level data and technology solutions.
  • Extensive knowledge of information governance standards for data security and confidentiality and an understanding of their application in practice.
  • Deep understanding of the structure of the NHS and the challenges facing healthcare provision in the United Kingdom
  • Knowledge ISO 20001, ISO 9001, ISO 27001.
