Job summary

Thornfield Medical Group are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic team member to join our practice team.

We are a 5-partner training practice which is split across 2 sites in the east of Newcastle upon Tyne.

This can be a part time or full-time position as recruiting the right person is important to us and we appreciate team members need to balance their work and home life.

You will work under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager/Partners and follow practice specific protocols or guidelines.

Main duties of the job

The main duties include, but are not limited to:

Venopuncture, blood pressure checks, Health monitoring, vaccines, ECGs, wound dressings, removal of stitches/staples, ABPM, ABPI, stock ordering.

The applicant should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and should be able to provide a high quality, patient centred care.

Thornfield Medical Group is a 5-partner practice based in the East of Newcastle upon Tyne and we have 2 sites which are close to each other. Our team consists of: GP's, ACP, ANP's, Pharmacists, Practice Nurse, Healthcare Assistants, Health and Well being coach, SPLW's , Care Coordinators.

Our current list is circa 20,000 patients.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Working under the direct supervision of the Practice Nurse Manager and strictly in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care. Training will be given for areas where competency is not already achieved.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assistance with Minor Surgery.

New patient health checks or NHS Health checks.

Phlebotomy.

Chaperoning duties.

Chronic Disease Management reviews.

Smoking Cessation Advice.

ABPM fitting.

ABPI testing.

Hypertension monitoring.

Administering of vaccines using a Patient Specific Direction.

Ordering various clinical items inclusive of equipment, consumables, and vaccines.

Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring, and recording.

Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation.

Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms.

Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions.

Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being.

Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual.

Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted.

Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being.

Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.

Experience

Essential

  • Ability to work as part of a General Practice team.
  • Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the HCA role.
  • Ability to communicate information in an understandable way to patients and colleagues, adapting communication style to meet the needs of the recipient.
  • Willing to develop clinical skills and competency relevant to the role and willing to undertake further training related to role, as required.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Good Computer skills.
  • General understanding of confidentiality requirements in a healthcare setting.
  • Be enthusiastic, reliable and an excellent time keeper.
  • Be available for overtime to cover sickness, holidays.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in General Practice or a Hospital setting as a as a Healthcare Assistant.
  • Experience of using SystmOne.

Qualifications
