Job summary
To provide a
high-quality, cost-effective service to the patients of Marine Medical Group;
diagnosing and prescribing treatments and medication while working within
defined procedures and protocols as laid down by the GPs.
You will be working
as part of a clinical team, with GP partners, Salaried GPs, GP Registrars,
Nurse practitioners, Mental Health Workers, Practice nurses and Healthcare
Assistants.
You will be
responsible for consulting with patients within the practice and visiting
patients in their place of residence who present with a wide range of minor
illness, urgent and same day requests for treatment and chronic disease
management, providing care for the presenting patient from initial history
taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care.
You will need to
demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care, including
assessment and diagnostic skills. You will need to prioritise and triage the
needs of patients accordingly making any necessary referrals for
investigations in the appropriate manner.
Main duties of the job
You will act as an autonomous clinician, with the support and guidance from the GP Partners.
Ensure clinical practice is safe and effective, and remains within the boundaries of competence.
Clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective, and plan clinical care accordingly.
Take a comprehensive patient history, carry out physical examinations and use expert knowledge and clinical judgement to identify the potential diagnosis.
Refer patients for investigations and/or the appropriate specialist where appropriate.
Make a final diagnosis with the support and guidance from the GP Partners and salaried GPs.
As much as possible independently decide on and carry out treatment, including prescribing medicines with the support and guidance from the GP Partners and salaried GPs.
Use your experience to plan and provide skilled and competent care to meet patients health and social care needs involving other members of wider heath care team as appropriate.
Ensure the provision of continuity of care including follow-up consultations/visits.
Assess and evaluate, with patients, the effectiveness of the treatment and care provided and make changes as needed.
Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self-care.

- Registered Paramedic with the Health and Care Professional Council.
- Successfully completed an IHCD Paramedic Training Programme or a recognised Higher Education Paramedic qualification at level 2.
- Completed two-year consolidation of learning programme in an ambulance trust, if appointed on/after 1st September 2016.
Experience

- Hold a valid Driving License
- Good verbal, listening and written communication skills.
