Job summary

A well-established and highly respected GP Practice in the centre of Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear. Beautiful coast and countryside on the doorstep and only 20 minutes from Newcastle city centre.

We are a team of 8 partners looking after 13000 patients with excellent nursing, administration, and additional attached roles (First Contact Physiotherapy, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technician, Frailty Nurse, CPN, Mental Health Worker and Social Prescriber). We are a training practice and also host medical students from Newcastle University.

Due to retirement, we are looking to recruit a 4-8 session GP partner.

We run personalised lists - each GP looks after their own defined list of patients. This is immensely rewarding and leads to very high levels of continuity of care the best for a practice our size in England. We believe strongly in this system and have recently had a letter about it published in the BJGP (see our website). Patients love it too: see our fantastic feedback on the GP National Patient Survey. We are a friendly, supportive practice and meet daily for coffee and enjoy a sit-down lunch every Friday beautiful sea view included! CQC outstanding. High QOF and DES achievements with above average earnings. You will be joining a stable and hardworking group where staff turnover is very low and job satisfaction is high.

Main duties of the job

In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake clinical sessions. A clinical session is normally composed of 14 morning appointments and 10 afternoon appointments, followed by a variety of duties including patient queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions, actioning test results, medical reports and examinations on behalf of the Practice.

The above duties should be performed in a timely manner. Appointments length can be customised to individual preference.

You will be required to:

Act upon most alerts (e.g. QOF) and reminders during a routine consultation.

Provide all GP services required as part of the GMS contract.

Respond to medical problems presented by patients, including history taking, examination, investigation, diagnosis, treatment and referral where appropriate.

Adhere to the practice prescribing formulary, local and national guidelines.

Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.

Record clear and contemporaneous I.T. based consultation notes to agreed standards.

Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible).

In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.
