Job summary

GP required for minimum 5 sessions a week initially salaried with later availability of partnership.

We are a happy, forward looking and long established practice consisting of 2 partners, 3 salaried GPs, 6 Nurse practitioners and 3 pharmacists serving a population of approximately 12,500 patients. Our focus is on delivering high quality patient centred care in a supportive and friendly environment, allowing our clinicians to flourish individually and as a team whilst providing patients with a high quality service.

To that end we place great emphasis on an optimal work-life balance for all staff, with strong encouragement of career progression and development. We are happy to provide a full introduction into primary care with mentorship as closely as you want, and regular internal development appraisals to help meet your needs and aspirations.

Main duties of the job

Range of general practice consultations including telephone triage, e-consults, face to face, home visits, urgent and non-urgent appointments for registered and (at times) unregistered patients

Overseeing and participating in chronic disease management

Telephone triage duties (with a capped number) identifying patients whose problems can be dealt with either by phone or with a prescription, investigation or referral, or triage into NP or routine appointments

Dealing with administrative tasks

Assisting with optimisation of QOF

Participation in audit, clinical meetings and contributing to team cohesion

Work as part of a team to ensure QOF targets are met

Participate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings, Time in meetings and clinical audit where required

Liaison with voluntary agencies and multi-disciplinary teams in both the community and secondary care

We would encourage an active role in shaping further development of the practice where services can be enhanced for patient benefit in any direction that you wish

We are a training practice for medical students and GP Registrars. Participation in teaching is encouraged (but by no means mandatory)

We welcome involvement in teaching of 1st, 3rd and final year medical students from Newcastle University, and student nurses from Teesside University, Pharmacists and other health professionals are also attached to the practice

About us

We are a Training Practice and for many years have taught medical students, receiving the highest positive feedback year on year. We have a thriving practice nursing team (which has just expanded) and a wealth of experienced clinicians performing the full range of chronic disease management, insulin initiation, contraception and sexual health, and womens health roles.

Our premises are spacious state of the art architect designed built in 2012. Newton Aycliffe is adjacent to Darlington (main line rail), the A1, Teesside and North Yorkshire, as well as being only 12 miles from the beautiful cathedral city of Durham, with many fine and pleasant places to live round and about but still close to all amenities.

In summary we provide:

SystmOne telephone first consulting with Accrux/eConsult extensively used for video/photo/text messaging

Daily capped telephone urgent triage, usually into NP/registrar appointments when needed

In house Pharmacists, pharmacy tech, social prescriber, care coordinator and superb admin support

GP training Practice with a comprehensive Newcastle University Medical students programme (Years 1 to 5)

8 weeks annual leave, indemnity paid with a BMA model contract

CQC Good rating/Full QOF achieving/Active PCN participants
