Job summary
We wish to appoint a Locum Consultant Paediatrician to join our team of dedicated general paediatricians. This is an eight session post to cover a period of maternity leave beginning in April 2026 for a period of 12 months.
You will join a team of seventeen consultants to work together to develop and improve general paediatric services in Swansea Bay University Health Board. You will be expected to participate in the Consultant on call rota (1:14) and current service week arrangements at Morriston Hospital. There is no cross cover with Neonatology. We currently have a system of two consultants performing acute service weeks (ward consultant and PAU consultant) who work together to ensure good standards of care. At the start of the post a formal job plan will be undertaken.
As well as providing services to the acute paediatric unit you will also undertake general paediatric outpatient clinics.
DCC sessions would be a combination of outpatient clinics, acute service weeks and on call including weekends.
Successful applicants will be expected to give safeguarding opinions for the other specialties and manage cases as they arise within emergency Paediatrics as well non mobile children presenting with suspected injuries.
The post is based at Morriston Hospital but you may be required to work at other locations within the Health Board.
Main duties of the job
Your role as part of a multi-disciplinary team will include responsibility for the provision of clinical care for children and young people focusing on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.
You will contribute to the service week consultant model provided to the department which include ward weeks and weeks on the paediatric assessment unit. You will also be expected to take part in a prospective on call rota to include nights and weekends.
