Job summary
The post holder will have significant corporate and professional accountability and responsibility for all pharmacy, medicines management and prescribing matters within the Health Board. Responsible for providing visible transformational and strategic leadership for the division; ensuring service development, improvement and modernisation aligns with and is responsive to national strategies, professional agendas and the strategic/ operational objectives of the Health Board. Provide expert pharmaceutical advice to the Board and other statutory bodies, in accordance with legislation and best practice in developing medicines management and therapeutics across the Health Board.
Main duties of the job
Accountable for ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical legislation, including the Human Medicines Regulations 2012, Controlled Drugs Regulations, and General Pharmaceutical Council standards.Ensure appropriate licensing arrangements are in place with the MHRA under the Human Medicines Regulations. Lead the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and procedures to support the safe, effective, and efficient use of medicines across the Health Board, translating national policy into local delivery. Oversee audit and research activities aligned with NHS objectives for medicines management, and actively contribute to pharmacy service development across Wales through participation in relevant professional groups. Develop long-term strategic plans for clinically and cost-effective medicines use within Health Board pathways, fostering partnerships with NHS and external organisations. Hold operational accountability for pharmacy and medicines management teams, associated budgets, and staffing to ensure safe and effective service delivery.

- Master's degree in Pharmacy, Advanced practical and theoretical knowledge of a range of clinical and technical pharmacy practice areas. Expert knowledge of and experience in implementing strategies and plans for the delivery of services and policy directives.
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society/ General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Postgraduate Clinical or Technical Pharmacy qualification, Postgraduate management qualification relevant to the NHS - or demonstrable equivalent experience.
