Job summary

An excellent development opportunity has arisen for a keen, enthusiastic, highly motivated individual to join our Clinical Coding Team at SBU Health Board.

It is essential that you have attained the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ), to be an Accredited Clinical Coder ACC.

The post holder will assist with the completion of consistent, accurate, complete and timely coded clinical data in accordance with all National Standards, local coding policies and Welsh Assembly Government deadlines.

The post holder will be required to be proficient in the use of patient administration systems, WPAS, Clinical Portal, EMS, CITO or other systems

Main duties of the job

The post holder will adhere to departmental targets in respect of timeliness, completeness, accuracy and depth of coding, in line with Health Board deadlines and national standard, All Wales Tier 1 Performance targets.

to apply for a Band 5 Lead Clinical Coding Analyst the post holder will have experience of coding a wide range of specialties within a busy hospital environment; coupled with excellent IT skills and a working knowledge of the Health Board's PAS systems.

It is desirable that the post holder has Knowledge or experience of AI and digital casenote systems.

You will be required to attend all mandatory and in-house clinical coding development and training, in order to keep abreast of changes to national clinical coding guidance & standards.

Demonstrating your commitment to Continual Professional Development.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential

  • Attained the National Clinical Coding Qualification (NCCQ - Diploma level 4) and achieved Accredited Clinical Coding (ACC) status OR equivalent and Post ACC qualification, ensure compliance in 3 yearly Clinical Coding Refresher course and achieve at least 90% in the course assessment
  • Advanced ongoing in-depth knowledge and understanding of anatomy, physiology, diseases and related health problems, of medical and surgical interventions and procedural terms
  • Knowledge and experience of AI and digital casenote systems in conjunction with the HB move to digital ways of working and the introduction of ICD11 and OPCS 5
  • Knowledge of all microsoft office applications and other relevant IT software packages required
  • able to demonstrate tact and diplomacy when working with others Demonstrate situations where effective leadership and management skills

Desirable

  • NCCQ Clinical Coding Auditor qualification
  • NCCQ Clinical Coding Trainer Qualification
  • Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh

Experience

  • Analyse and apply National Clinical Coding Standards and to a broad range of healthcare specialties and scenarios which can often be highly complex and conflicting
  • clinical coding within a hospital setting coding all specialty / regional service admissions
  • Significant practical coding experience across a wide range of specialties of all complexities
  • Experience of interrogating both paper records and electronic systems / applications to extract clinical information for the purpose of clinical coding some of which can be conflicting
  • Experience of working under pressure to deliver set Welsh Government in-month and year- end targets, whilst also ensuring quality of data is of a high standard

  • Special requirements to perform in the role e.g., Ability to travel within geographical area.
  • Able to work hours flexibly.
