Job summary

This is a full-time, permanent Band 5 position within the Nuclear Medicine Department, primarily based at Singleton Hospital. The post-holder will contribute to the delivery of high-quality DXA and imaging services, providing essential technical and clinical support to maintain safe and efficient operation of the service.

Following an appropriate period of training, the successful candidate will participate in DXA scanning sessions during weekdays and evenings, and may also be required to support occasional weekend sessions to meet service demand. In addition, there may be a requirement to support DXA imaging on the mobile unit when needed to ensure continuity of service across sites.

We are seeking an exceptionally motivated Radiographer or Nuclear Medicine Clinical Technologist to join our friendly and dynamic team. The post-holder will provide technical and professional input to the DXA service, with opportunities to gain experience across the full range of Nuclear Medicine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a fast-developing and innovative service.

Nuclear Medicine at Singleton Hospital is a supportive and progressive department where continuing professional development is actively encouraged and supported. Full training will be provided for suitable candidates. The successful applicant will be expected to hold, or work towards, HCPC or RCT professional registration within the course of their employment.

Main duties of the job

The Nuclear Medicine Department provides highly specialised diagnostic services across South West Wales. As part of this expert multidisciplinary team, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of high-quality bone density (DXA) and Nuclear Medicine imaging services.

This post is based on the DXA mobile unit operating across Hywel Dda University Health Board, providing community-access bone density scanning. The successful candidate will support extended scanning sessions on weekdays and weekends, ensuring consistent service delivery and optimal use of the mobile unit.

The post holder will perform a range of diagnostic procedures for patients with diverse clinical needs, maintaining the highest standards of technical accuracy, patient care, and safety.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality DXA imaging in line with national and departmental standards.

  • Assessing imaging outputs to verify accuracy and support interpretation.

  • Providing compassionate care and advice, ensuring appropriate patient preparation.

  • Working autonomously within competence, escalating issues appropriately.

  • Supporting patients with physical or cognitive impairments using empathy and effective communication.

  • Performing safe manual handling and adhering to infection control procedures.
