Job summary

This role will have day-to-day responsibility for the management of the Welsh Fertility Institute (WFI). The post holder will provide a highly visible and authoritative presence ensuring the needs of patients are placed at the centre of care. The post holder is accountable for the effective management of all resources needed to deliver a comprehensive WFI service including achieving performance targets and longer term service developments. This postholder will have accountability for ensuring delivery of the service meets the organisational and commissioner requirements as well as all regulatory.The post holder will have well developed leadership and influencing skills with the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve individuals and teams. The post holder will need to be intellectually flexible, with the ability to look beyond existing structures and ways of working to produce a more effective and innovative service delivery. Having sound political judgement and astuteness in understanding and working with complex policy, and diverse interest groups is a necessary quality for the successful applicant.

Main duties of the job

This senior post heads the WFI Service and ensures that the service provides a high quality and innovative practice to all its users and clients. The post holder will be a core member of the WFI management team. The post requires in-depth knowledge and skills within the field of Fertility. All activities are carried out within a quality system framework.The post holder will provide effective professional leadership for all clinicians within the service, taking account of relevant regulatory, legal, ethical and professional frameworks promoting and maintaining high professional standards.The post holder will maintain knowledge of the latest developments and techniques within their area of expertise with a view to introducing them into the service where appropriate. The post holder will be required to provide specialist advice and support to the Associate Service Group Director for CYP and Womens for the development and implementation of new procedures and techniques and will, as required, take the lead for research and audit within the section.

Service Delivery, Development & Improvement Work closely with the WFI Clinical Lead across the Health Board, Senior Nurses and Divisional senior leadership team to develop patient focused services in line with the NHS Long Term Plan other relevant standards, ensuring that relevant standards are met. Ensure timely and efficient provision of Fertility Services within the available resources. Ensure effective processes and procedures are in place to monitor and track performance within the Service.

Staff Management Ensure staff management strategies appropriately reflect the needs of a diverse and changing staff group.

Financial Management Have responsibility for the WFI budget, liaising closely with the divisional Finance Manager. Ensure the optimum use of resources by establishing and maintaining an effective management process to ensure financial control.

Professional Leadership Develop and maintain a progressive structure of professional development for all multidisciplinary staff groups within the service, including both clinical and non-clinical roles.

Research and Education Ensure that a training and education strategy is developed and implemented to meet the needs of the service and its future development.

Risk Management & Clinical Governance Implement and monitor clinical governance structures and processes within the division as part of the divisional management team. Ensure compliance with the HFEA licence and maintaining the Service to be inspection ready at all times.
