Swansea Bay University Health Board

Infection Prevention & Control Nursing Support Worker

The closing date is 27 August 2025

Job summary

Morriston, SwanseaSwansea Bay UHB Infection Prevention & Control Service is looking for a motivated, individual who is committed to ensuring the delivery of safe and effective care to service users and has a desire to become part of the Infection Prevention and Control Team.

This will be a permanent position with full time hours (37.5 hours, Mon-Fri 9-5pm, excluding BH). The post will have planned rotation between all healthcare settings, but after a period of induction, will be primarily community focussed. Rotation between community or hospital settings will ensure the post holder gains experience in all specialities across Swansea Bay University Health Board. The post holder should be flexible to enable the work base to change to meet specific service demands and at times of escalation. This may involve supporting local health protection teams and working with community-based partner organisations/providers.

The role may involve daily travel between multiple health board premises and community settings, often on the same day, to provide support, education, and audit in relation to IP&C. On site parking is not accessible at all sites so it could involve some walking, and the post holder will often be transporting training equipment, such as the hand hygiene Glow box and PPE training supplies, between health board sites. Therefore, the ability to travel independently between sites in a timely manner is essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of the Infection Prevention & Control Team (IPCT) to provide an integrated service in all health delivery settings including Primary, Secondary and Tertiary care, and within Mental Health & Learning Disability settings.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly and within their level of competence alongside the wider team. The role includes providing support to staff on all aspects of infection prevention and control including equipment decontamination. You will also support in the delivery of education and perform audit across the service groups.

The post holder will visit clinical areas to undertake data collection, perform observations of infection prevention and control practice to provide feedback and enable reporting and assurance on the application of and compliance against Infection prevention and control standards. The post holder will also provide support during the monitoring of infection outbreaks and monitor control measures that are required for patients with an alert organism.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post, but not essential. English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

About us

The post holder will gain valuable experience working collaboratively with many staff disciplines and will be able to influence others, supporting best practice through positive role modelling. As a member of the corporate nursing team, the post holder will provide assurance around the quality and standard of care provision being delivered to ensure a positive patient experience and that safe systems of working are evident to protect staff, patients, and visitors from infection risks.
