Job summary

An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a Band 8a Clinical Lead Physiotherapy post in the Mental Health Team, SBU HB. The teams covers MH In -patient areas across two main sites together with several community teams.

You will provide leadership, support, supervision and mentorship to staff whilst also liaising with Heads of Service from both Therapies and Mental Health Directorates.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery, standards and policy implementation within the team. Excellent communication skills with a patient cohort that has profound communication difficulties are essential as well as communicating professional managerial issues to service managers.

There is a significant clinical component within this role including advice on management of highly complex patients

Main duties of the job

o Responsible for planning, delivering, managing and evaluating the physiotherapy services across the whole patient pathway including the acute setting through to rehabilitation and out-patient/ outreach follow up and community based therapy where applicable

o Ensure that the provision and delivery of the Physiotherapy is evidence based and in line with recognised best practice.

o Ensure the physiotherapy teams adhere to the Health Board and Departmental Clinical Governance agenda

o Work to ensure the Physiotherapy Service is compliant with all relevant key performance indicators and datasets

o Take the lead role in contributing to and delivering any planned or future service re-design model SBUHB wide

o Contribute specific clinical physiotherapy expertise

o Represent the Physiotherapy Service at SBUHB meetings

o Attend National and International forums providing a highly specialist r resource for other therapy, nursing and medical professionals.

o Ensure the development and implementation of r applicable strategies both locally and nationally ensuring that National and local priorities are met as well as ensuring quality of care across the patient pathway. Delivers specialist training and provides individual development programs of training relevant to clinical experience/ expertise.

  • Evidence of attendance on specialist short courses and relevant post-graduate training in area of clinical expertise, equivalent to masters level
  • Accredited Fieldwork Educator or equivalent training qualification e.g. Assessor / train the trainer / PGCE etc Leadership/management training
  • Advanced knowledge of working as a Physiotherapy working in the NHS with knowledge of service delivery in a variety of different clinical settings across the patient pathway Supervision of physiotherapy staff and students
  • Active involvement in specialist interest groups, and leading projects, developing a new service, or service/ or practice innovation Experience of leading an audit and research project
