Job summary

Vacancies have arisen for a general Porters based at Singleton Hospital in Swansea Bay University Health Board. The posts will be based on one site, although there may be a requirement to work at other Health Board hospitals.

We are offering 1x 37.5hrs 6 month fixed term contract, 1x22.5hrs permanent contract and 2x37.5hrs permanent contract.

The post holder will be required to undertake a wide range of routine Portering duties including Patient movement, moving and handling, in line with the Portering department and general Health Board policies and procedures, with a commitment to customer care, following on the job training.

They will also be required to provide and maintain a flexible, dedicated, comprehensive support service to departments of the hospitals, under the direction of Portering Coordinator/ Portering Shift Leaders, establishing both clinical and non-clinical departments to function effectively.

The post holder will work as part of a team to provide an efficient Portering services to the Health Board, contributing to first class customer service to all users of the Health Board.

Main duties of the job

Undertake a wide range of routine portering duties including moving and handling, in line with portering department and general policies and procedures, with a commitment to customer care, following on the job training.

Communicate effectively and efficiently with patients, visitors, colleagues and other staff using telephone, radio and 'bleep', as appropriate, in addition to face to face communication.

Transfer patients, medical equipment and associated medical sundries as delegated by the line management by use of bed, chair, trolley etc. Transfer furniture and assist in relocating equipment during office relocations and or new developments, including disposal where appropriate.

Distribute/collect and dirty linen / laundry (including soiled and infected) to designated locations and collect, transfer hospital refuse and controlled waste (including general, clinical, sharps boxes, limbs and cytoxic waste) to appropriate disposal points in accordance with Trust procedures, policies and appropriate competency training.
