Job summary

The Senior Healthcare Assistant (BAND 3) has a greater degree of autonomy than the Healthcare Assistant and undertakes abroader range of health and care in accordance with policy and procedures. The post holder will work on their own initiative,undertaking delegated tasks with appropriate supervision in place from a registered practitioner/assistant practitioner.

The post holder contributes to assessment and assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation ofindividualised care plans. They will supervise other staff and promote the delivery of high-quality care.

Main duties of the job

Ensure that all endoscopes are decontaminated and available for use when required.

Liaise with clinical staff to ensure that an appropriate endoscope is available for elective and emergency procedures.

Effectively exchange routine information with colleagues.

Liaise with all members of the Endoscopy team to ensure that all endoscopes are cleaned in accordance with infection control guidelines, manufacturers guidelines, and in accordance with the Health Board policies and procedures relating to the use of this equipment

Assist in maintaining the quality control and assurance systems in accordance with HTM 01-06

Participate in regular benchmarking and audit of decontamination standards

Maintain efficient and effective communication with colleagues within the Endoscopy Department, theatre and external departments including estates, EBME, HSDU and Infection control

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Level 3 qualification in a health care related subject or Equivalent experience and can evidence work-based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge, and the ability to undertake clinical care duties relevant for the role, which is gained through experience and work-based training/short courses).
  • Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW)
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting, for example the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe, and confidentiality, for example General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)

Desirable

  • Level 3 qualification in Perioperative Support / or equivalent qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as a Health Care Support Worker in an operating theatre environment

Desirable

  • Experience of working with patient groups relevant to area of practice.
