Job summary
The post holder will work with the Consultant Histopathologists and Biomedical Scientists (BMS) to provide an accurate diagnosis of specimens, which will improve the clinical treatment of patients, contributing to their welfare.
The post holder functions at a higher competency level than all other Health Care Support grades to deliver a timely Histology service. The post holder will carry out the routine tasks in the laboratory not requiring all the specialist skills or training of a BMS.
Main duties of the job
We are currently looking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our team in the Cellular Pathology Department at Swansea Bay University Health Board.
We have vacancies for Band 4 Associate Practitioners.
It is an extremely busy department and the successful candidate will work as part of the team performing both technical and clerical laboratory duties.
This a relatively new and exciting role and offers good development and career opportunities. Duties will include a wide range of laboratory tasks from the receipt and processing of tissue samples through to thepreparation for diagnosis and reporting. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in all aspects of the departmental rota.Previous laboratory experience is an advantage, together with an understanding of medical terminology and human anatomy.
