Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist (Echocardiography)

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic Highly Specialist Echocardiographer to join our team in Swansea Bay University Health Board.

The Echocardiography department holds BSE Advanced Departmental accreditation and features the latest cardiac ultrasound equipment in an all-encompassing digital echo lab. We perform standard transthoracic echocardiography and a wide range of advanced imaging techniques, including performing DSE's/ESE's and physiology-led contrast and bubble studies. We also support a TOE service.

The department offers a wide range of invasive and non-invasive investigations. Investigations include physiologist-led exercise testing, 24 hour ECG and BP monitoring and event recording. We provide a 24-hour primary PCI service alongside complex PCI and interventional techniques, TAVI service. We operate a busy Pacemaker and ICD implant and follow up service to include the use of remote monitoring, EPS + complex ablation and mapping procedures. We also carry out Physiology led clinics. The department is a teaching Hospital and is actively involved in research. We are also participating in a number of clinical research trials. Main duties of the job

Applicants should able to demonstrate competence and expertise in a full range of advanced echocardiography techniques. Applicants must be highly motivated, well organised, have a flexible approach to work and reliable. They should demonstrate a good understanding of issues pertinent to the education of echocardiography and be enthusiastic to both teach and learn new professional clinical skills within the field of echocardiography.

The successful applicant should also demonstrate a high level of clinical and technical expertise in Echocardiography. Hold a BSc Clinical Physiology/Healthcare science (cardiac science), hold registration with RCCP or AHCS and have a higher-level qualification i.e. BSE Adult accreditation.

Applicants that do not hold a higher level qualification and/or skills for the band 7 role will be considered, and if successful will be appointed into a training post under Annex 21 rules.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

  • ILS Resuscitation certified
  • Education to Masters level or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of relevant post graduate qualification in associated specialty i.e. BSE (British Society of Echocardiography)
  • Responsible for ensuring health and safety knowledge and skills are maintained, updated and developed Excellent computer literacy skills to include the use of microsoft office and information and planning systems for analysis. Advanced clinical skills
