Job summary

We are looking for highly motivated HCPC-registered Band 6 Biomedical Scientists to join the Immunology Team within the Laboratory Medicine Service at Swansea Bay University Health Board.

The Laboratory Medicine Service is a diverse service spread across four hospital sites in Swansea Bay in a hub (Morriston) and spoke (Singleton, Princess of Wales and Neath/Port Talbot) model.

The Laboratory Medicine Team seeks to modernise our service by embracing new ways of working, committing to developing our knowledge and skills and actively seeking to develop a professional multidisciplinary team across the Service that provides a 24/7 365, year-round service for our patients.

The Immunology Laboratory is well equipped with equipment from suppliers such as Werfen, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Aesku and Euroimmun.

Ideally the post holder will have existing knowledge and skills in specialist immunology techniques, however we welcome applications from candidates who are interested in developing their knowledge and skills in Immunology and the wider specialist analytics techniques sections

Main duties of the job

As a Specialist Band 6 BMS you will be providing a comprehensive Immunology service as an aid to effective diagnosis and treatment ensuring diagnostically abnormal results are acted upon urgently, you will also deputise for senior staff and assist in the training and supervision of junior members of the team.

The Immunology Service is a currently a 7 to 5 operation Monday to Friday, however, a flexible approach to working hours is required as this may expand to a full 24/7 service in the future alongside other specialist sections. Immunology is rapidly expanding, providing services on a national level also. Any OOH provided for other disciplines should not impact Immunology services.

About Annex 21

Fully qualified Specialist Biomedical Scientist (BMS) Band 6 - only candidates that have successfully completed the IBMS Specialist Diploma will be considered for the full Specialist BMS band 6 post. This must be clearly indicated on your application form.

Trainee Specialist BMS - Applicants who do not hold the full qualifications will be considered for a trainee position and will be subject to Annex 21 of Band 6. It is a condition of appointment to the training position that the required qualifications are achieved.
