Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Flying Start Midwife in the Neath Port Talbot locality.

The post holder will provide additional midwifery care over and above the core service for pregnant women ages 20 years and under within the Neath/Port Talbot locality.

The post holder will be responsible for developing innovative strategies, which will aid in reducing further unplanned pregnancies in the under 20 population of Neath Port Talbot.

The post holder will need to work in partnership with all disciplines within Flying Start and will be expected to work in partnership with the extended Flying Start Team within the Local Authority.

Main duties of the job

Within Flying Start the post holder will be expected to work in partnership with the extended Flying Start Team within the Local Authority. As well as external agencies, this role will be expected work in collaboration with services such as Police Service, Probation, YOT (Youth Offender Team), Route 16, TAF (Team Around the Family), Outreach Services (ISH), FAST, Home Start, Housing, PRAMS and more. This role within SBUHB will be expected to work with Obstetricians, Specialist Midwives, Health Visitors and other specialist health professionals.

Post holder will need to work in collaboration with the maternity services/ other colleagues to implement change in working practices to ensure that public health messages are provided within the locality.

The post holder will work autonomously within guidelines and sphere of professional practice. Multi-agency and partnership working will be the key to the success of this role and the post holder will be expected to establish and maintain strong relationships and links with many agencies including across the Flying Start Areas.
