Job Summary

An opportunity to join the Neath Port Talbot & Singleton Service Group management team has arisen within our senior leadership team. Responsible for ensuring high standards of clinical care, governance, and medical leadership within the Neath Port Talbot and Singleton Service Group.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the Service Group Director and Group Nurse Director to deliver safe, high-quality services aligned with Health Board strategies.

The Service Group Medical Director (SGMD) will provide clinical leadership, manage medical staff, and contribute to strategic planning and service improvement across all specialties within the Group.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual with a keen interest and experience in clinical leadership and clinical governance.

Main duties of the job

The Service Group Medical Director is responsible for providing the senior medical leadership and advice within the Service Group and will be accountable for ensuring that all clinical activity in the Service Group is of consistent high quality and delivers the necessary outcomes and performance.

The Service Group is accountable and responsible for a range of divisions across the service group including:-

Division of Children, Young People and Women's Health

Division of Surgery (including Theatres and Anaesthetics)

Division of Hospital Operations for Singleton and Neath Port Talbot Hospitals

Division on Oncology, Haematology and Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering

Division of Pharmacy and Medicines Management

About us

Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential

  • Full GMC registration and inclusion on the Specialist Register.
  • Consultant level
  • Fellowship examination from a Medical Royal College or other relevant educational establishment.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and effective systems of medical and dental management such as job planning, appraisal and clinical assessment.
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and its application across health services.
  • Extensive knowledge of the strategic issues facing NHS Wales.

Desirable

  • Higher qualifications in medical leadership or healthcare management (e.g., MBA, MSc in Medical Leadership).
  • Experience in strategic planning, financial management, and business case development
  • - Evidence of active involvement in research, innovation, and education.
  • Membership of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management
  • Understanding of the principles of corporate governance.
